South Carolina is the top overall seed in the 2024 women’s NCAA basketball tournament, and the team is also the sport’s top dog ( top bird? ) economically. The Gamecocks spent$ 9.5 million on their women’s basketball team in the 2021- 22 year, more than any other staff in the country. The massive spending that time paid off as coach Dawn Staley’s club won the national tournament in 2022.
The five programs in the country that spent at least$ 8 million on women’s basketball, according to EADA data, all secured top three seeds in this year’s tournament. No. 3 plant UConn, which also produced the highest- paying top grain on the female’s area, has the second largest women’s hockey budget at$ 8.5 million. That’s 11x more than their initial square player, No. 14 Jackson State.

How’s how all 68 championship team load up:
The First Four activity between No. 1 and No. 2 is another intriguing economic imbalance to see. 12 grains Vanderbilt and Columbia. The former has n’t been to the big dance since 2014, while Columbia had never made it before this year, but their spending habits could n’t be more different. The Commodores ‘ spending ranking sixth in the country at$ 7.99 million, while Columbia’s$ 1.16 million really hardly crosses the seven- determine level.
Vanderbilt and No. 11 plant Texas A&, M are exceptions in terms of their children’s sports costs. Then, there is a strong relationship between seed quantity and budget size. Every class had a No seed. Six or better invested at least$ 3 million in its team, but no team placed second overall. 12 or worse, away from Vanderbilt, eclipsed that spending overall.
No. Iowa, the nation’s top seed, increased its women’s hockey budget by 38 % last year in line with Caitlin Clark’s rise as a divine institution baseball superstar. No other common FBS software has made a bigger difference in the amount of money it spent on women’s sports, according to our university sports finance database.
On the judge, the top seeds in the children’s tournament have a financial advantage equal to what is happening. Major three grains are 347- 1 generally in the round of 64 and have won all 41 names. No. 1 grains have won 10 of the previous 11 national championships.
Following the second four perform- in activities, the first round of the women’s competition tips off Friday.
