Want to unwind on Monday following the Super Bowl and not have to function? Roger Goodell, the NFL inspector, wants that for you as well.
Goodell stated on The Pat McAfee Show that he wants the Super Bowl to fall on Presidents ‘ Day weekend after receiving his usual number of shouts on Thursday during his NFL Draft talk. Businesses in the United States are closed on Monday, which is a national holiday, and many businesses offer vacation to their employees.
Leaders ‘ Day is the second Monday in February. Since the plan expanded to 17 games in 2021, the Super Bowl is now played on the following Sunday in February.
Goodell claims that the NFL will add an 18th regular season game and reduce the training plan to two matches. He believes the current format is good for the group, but he sees possible modify as a positive.
” I’m not a fan of the preseason … the reality is, I’d rather replace a preseason game with a regular season ( game ) any day”, Goodell said. ” If we got to 18 ( regular season games ) and two ( preseason games ), that’s not an unreasonable thing”.
McAfee’s eyes lit up and said,” then we’re cooking”! pointing at the favorable response a Super Bowl might receive over the weekend of President ‘ Time. The supporters in the background cheered.
While it sounds good in principle, it’s really talk at this point. The NFL Players Association would need to cast a ballot on whether a collective bargaining agreement should be held.
During the NFL owners ‘ conference in Florida, the group doubled down on having game on Christmas Day by adding a second match to this year’s Dec. 25 case, which is on a Wednesday. In group past, there were only 30 games to be played on Christmas Day, including two playoff game.
” I think we’ve looked for those opportunities where we can make a day out of it and ( on ) holidays, that’s what we do”, Goodell said on the show. ” Thanksgiving has been our biggest game for years.”
