Tom Brady says he’s still a player. Only in a completely different way right now.
The seven-time Super Bowl champion is no longer in the backfield, but he’s up tearing up game-to-be as Fox Sports ‘ lead researcher and making adjustments right away. Before his debut season at Fanatics Fest in New York City on Friday evening, Brady discussed how to transition from the football to radio.
He claims that while initially retiring in 2022, he did n’t consider it until the network approached him about a possible resemblance to his previous job. He later put his cleats on hold for good last year.
” I still get to get a quarterback”, he said during a one-on-one talk called” Real Grit” with ESPN character Stephen A. Smith. ” It’s a little bit different but in the end, you’re sitting in that hot seat and you’re the one calling the shots. That’s where I like to become and where I’m most cozy”.
Brady, the highest-paid sports commentator always, drew inspiration from previous New England Patriots teammates Tedy Bruschi, Willie McGinest, and Rodney Harrison, who all had powerful sports television jobs. In addition, the 15-time Pro Bowler says he reached out to former NFLers-turned-current stars in the booth, including CBS’s Tony Romo, ESPN’s Troy Aikman and NBC’s Cris Collinsworth.
Brady’s style of commentary is still a mystery, with the former quarterback saying he wo n’t hold back on his opinions, but he made his case for Fox to air his upcoming season.
The former sixth-round draft pick spoke of the many ups and downs he had during his 23-year NFL career, noting that” there were so many different things that I was able to be a part of, I can relate to this current generation of athletes going out there trying to make their dreams come true.”
Brady, who is also using retirement to flush out his business portfolio, did n’t leave the” True Grit” stage without doubling down on his previous comments made on the Stephen A. Smith Show last year about the “mediocrity” around the league. ” You have to develop these players to be better every year if you want football to be good,” he said. The reality is that we do n’t have the tools in place to make those players better year after year.
The future Hall of Famer had a number of reasons why the NFL’s on-field product was weak, from more distractions off the field to the development of the transfer portal, which allows players to jump from program to program without getting stuck. These heinous actions could be the start of what Brady’s fans might receive on television starting this season and going forward.
Brady was asked what else he wants to accomplish in life as he juggles his business and broadcasting duties along with being a father of three. He said he wants to pay it forward, serving as a mentor and positive role model for athletes, students, coaches and others.
” I’ve had a lot of unique experiences that have helped me grow”, he added. The people who entered my life are the only ones who are the only ones who are still here today.
