Xander Schauffele put on a doctor on Sunday at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland, hitting 16 of the 18 fairways in rules and posting a 6-under-par square of 65 for a 72-hole full of 9-under 275. In order to gain the 152nd British Open, he won a two-stroke victory over Justin Rose and Billy Horschel. Thriston Lawrence (-6 ) and Russell Henley (-5 ) rounded out the top five.
The Claret Jug win was fair$ 3.1 million in prize money, while Rose and Horschel each won$ 1.44 million for their runner-up end. After three sessions, Horschel led the Open Championship.
During the assessment of the medal, Schauffele said,” Hearing your name called with Open champion after it is everything I’ve dreamed of for a very long time.
Schauffele walked into the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky, two months ago, carrying the dreaded title of best player to always win a key. With a final round of 65, he even managed to defeat Bryson DeChambeau by one stroke to win the PGA. He presently has a second key on his profile.
The 30-year-old American is only the sixth athlete to get the PGA and British Open in the same year; Tiger Woods did it twice in 2000 and 2006 as well. Rory McIlory passed away in 2014, the next day. With his 2018 U.S. Open and PGA Championship, Brooks Koepka became the next guy golfer to win two majors in a single season.
Schauffele just won the two disciplines in 2024, but he has been consistent all season, making it in all 18 of his PGA Tour appearances and achieving just one place accomplish outside the major 25. Schauffele likely head to Paris for the Summer Olympics in which he will attempt to defend his silver medal from the Tokyo games.
