Chinese consumers became more interested in tennis after China’s first Olympian golf gold helped Amer Sports increase sales of racket and ball equipment by double digits in its fourth quarter.
Amer Sports Tuesday reported its third quarter earnings, saying all facets of its business were strong in the period, as sales rose 17 % to$ 1.35 billion. The firm also earned 11 cents per share which, with profits, quietly exceeded Wall Street objectives. After rising as high as 7 % up from Monday and falling as low as 6 % in the opening hours of trading, Amer shares were roughly constant midmorning on the New York Stock Exchange.
Amer Sports is the parent of a brake of sporting goods models, including Arc’teryx, Salomon and Wilson. Three Chinese firms, including Lululemon businessman Chip Wilson, purchased Amer in 2019 and went public this year. The business’s two largest brands, outdoor clothing manufacturer Arc’teryx and snow-sports gear and shoemaker Salomon, are located in China, where the Americas account for the majority of its physical market. Greater China’s sales increased by 54 % in the third quarter, beating those in the rest of Asia-Pacific. Growth was slower in North America and Europe, at about 2.5 %.

Wilson, the third largest brand for Amer, grew 11 % to about$ 300 million in sales in the quarter as ball and racket demand rose. The business claimed that Zheng Qinwen’s gold medal, which was the country’s first singles tennis gold, has piqued more people’s attention in tennis in mainland China. Along with padel and pickleball, sport may continue to power mid-single-digit progress for Wilson long-term, according to the business.
CEO Jie Zheng made ready notes on a Tuesday analyst call with experts, stating that” While still in its early stages, our Tennis 360 strategy is proving to be a key driver for the Wilson company, led by apparel and footwear progress, and accelerating growth of Tennis 360 stores in China.” Our new line of Roger Federer’s advanced performance ball, specifications, and accessories, which launched in August, has been extremely popular in the first month, according to the statement from our U.S. Open shop, which sold record amounts earlier this drop.
Earlier in August, Federer and Wilson released the RF Collection, which includes ball grips and grommets as well as gear bags and associated accessories.
For the whole season, Amer raised its direction, saying it should make about$ 5.07 billion sales worldwide.
Amer went public in February for$ 13 per share, up about 50 % from the New York buying session on Tuesday.
