Two of the biggest sporting and leisure actors are playing golf for fun.
According to The New York Times, Rapper Drake and Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James are tactical investors in the PGA Tour.
A consortium of well-known U.S. sports team owners teamed up in January to form a commercial venture ( PGA Tour Enterprises ) in which players will receive equity from Fenway Sports Group ( FSG) and Strategic Sports Group ( SSG). According to the agreement, SSG will spend up to$ 3 billion, with an additional$ 1.5 billion already pending.
James is an investment in FSG, the parent firm of the Boston Red Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates, and became the first NBA player to score 40, 000 positions on Saturday. According to the NYT document, this expense is in addition to his engagement with FSG.

Drake, who serves as the Toronto Raptors ‘ world trader, is not brand-new. In 2022, James and Drake, along with investors RedBird Capital Partners and the New York Yankees ‘ owners, purchased a majority stake in AC Milan. ( RedBird invests in Fenway Sports Group as well. ) James, who is ranked No. Prior to joining parent company FSG as an investor in 2021, the 4th-ranked athlete on Sportico’s list of the highest-paid athletes in the world initially purchased a minority stake in Liverpool’s EPL in 2011.
Other famous investors, such as James ‘ business partner Maverick Carter, James ‘ agent Rich Paul, actor Chris Pratt, long-time recording executive Steve Stoute, and United Talent Agency CEO Jeremy Zimmer, are reportedly joining James, who was assisted by Main Street Advisors headman Paul Wachter.
” Anytime you’re able to participate in something with such a historical place as the PGA and the company that has been built, I’m not passing on that,” Paul said. Instead of focusing on the transfer, I believe it should be more about how I can increase value. I’m all about diversifying, and that’s one that came across and made feel. You do n’t get a chance at everything, but this one is pretty cool to be a part of.
As more Black stars and athletes get involved in promoting the game, Drake and James ‘ foray into golf comes at a time when more Black players and sportsmen do so. Stephen Curry, a former NBA player who made millions of dollars to help launch Howard University’s sport program, has spoken out against making the game more equal. Eastside Golf, a black-owned life clothing brand, and Renegade, a black-owned golfing equipment brand, have both gained popularity.
Other sports team owners include New York Mets user Steve Cohen, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, and FSG user John Henry. Linda Henry, co-owner of Boston Globe Media, and Marc Lasry’s Avenue Sports Fund are even members of the group.
If the NBA franchise expands to Las Vegas, James has expressed interest in owning one. He now has access to higher levels of equity thanks to his more funding for the PGA Tour.
The PGA Tour and the Saudi-backed LIV Golf League and the DP World Tour are still in discussions about their potential consolidation. The deadline for negotiations came to an end last year, and the parties are still trying to find a solution, which might include the Saudi Public Investment Fund ( PIF ). SSG will be a majority buyer and the Tour will continue to be in charge of the for-profit institution if the present broader agreement is successful.

The Puerto Rico Open this trip kicks off the 2024 PGA Tour time.
