Relevent, a sports media and marketing firm, announced on Tuesday that it has the rights to distribute English Football League ( EFL ) games throughout the Americas starting this summer and continuing through the 2027-28 season.
The Championship, League One, and League Two are the divisions of the EFL, England’s oldest sports league before the founding of the Premier League, with 24 venues each in each section. Through its FX/Hulu collection, Welcome to Wrexham, Worcester AFC, which is now second in League Two, has heightened the competition’s stateside interest in an unprecedented way. Leicester City, the 2016 champion of the Premier League, is already atop the standings as it attempts to return to first-tier play.
Relevent CEO Daniel Sillman stated in a speech,” We are thrilled to partner with the EFL to bring the excitement and play of one of the most watched international sports leagues to fans throughout the Americas.”
Pitch International, which apparently had been put on a list this time around, put games on ESPN’s system, including those in the Carabao Cup and playoff games. Pitch will continue to protect EFL freedom in other countries, while Premier League and EFL have apparently agreed to offer their foreign press rights starting in 2028.
Relevent has worked on UEFA team competitions, the International Championship Cup, and summer trip events and has gained experience growing international soccer properties in the United States. LaLiga North America is a joint venture between Relevent and the group, which was co-founded by Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross.
Relevent will set up an EFL content studio to produce localized modern videos for both English and Spanish-speaking audiences as part of the agreement. It intends to create experiences that appeal both to devoted fans of the EFL and to more relaxed sports viewers.
Boris Gartner, chairman of Relevent Sports, stated in an interview that “we’ll undoubtedly continue to use the Wrexham account.” You also have extremely old English venues that have been Premier League clubs for a very long time and that we will use as well.
Not only Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney are investing in the lower-level American sections. 22 venues have received American dollars as of the end of last year, according to The Athletic’s mathematics.
In addition, a number of streaming companies have adopted sports tactics. Apple has an MLS deal, Peacock airs Premier League games, Paramount + shows Champions League and Serie A games, and this year, Amazon’s Prime Video adds NWSL game to its lineup.
