Boston Red Sox director Alex Cora is going back to school, so to speak. The New Balance Sport Leadership and Administration program’s professional in home will be the UMass Boston’s New Balance Sport.
The program launched in 2019 and now has 126 engaged individuals. It aims to train students in various positions in the sporting industry by fostering experts who can improve world through the lens of activities.
In a press release, Cora stated,” The sports business is very competitive, and I’m excited to work with UMass Boston to help develop high-character people and help place them in roles that will allow them to form sports for potential generations.”
Dr. Joseph Cooper, the Dr. J. Keith Motley Endowed Chair of Sport Leadership and Administration at UMass Boston, called Cora “one of the most recognized and forwards- thinking managers in activities”.

After serving as the Astros ‘ bench coach in the 2016 and 2017 times, Cora became the Red Sox’s first Puerto Rican boss. He won the World Series for the first time in 2018 and has a.543 get percentage over the course of five times.
In November 2018, Cora was charged with playing a key role in Houston’s sophisticated plans to take signs from opposing teams during the 2017 World Series-winning season. Major League Baseball suspended Cora, together with next- Astros director A. J. Hinch, former general manager Jeff Luhnow and Carlos Beltran—who had been hired as director of the New York Mets before parting ways after the investigation—for the 2020 season. Cora left the Red Sox after the suspension, but he was hired again in advance of the 2021 season.
The Red Sox’s management team wo n’t have a moment to reflect, especially for a team expected to once again struggle to keep up in a fierce American League East. Cora will, however, mentor and speak with students during class visits both on campus and at Fenway Park.
