Xander Schauffele was in the lead at the end of the next round of the PGA Championship, one stroke adrift of Collin Morikawa. After the PGA of America unveiled the reward bag on Saturday afternoon, Schauffele and the other 77 people who made the cut today understand how much money is at stake.
Total prize money is$ 18.5 million, up 5.7 % or$ 1 million from 2023, according to the governing body. First place will receive$ 3.33 million, an increase of$ 180, 000 from last year, when Brooks Koepka won his third Wanamaker Trophy. Second place this year is due$ 1.998 million, and third will receive$ 1.258 million. The rest of the field will earn less than$ 1 million, the final golfer in 78th place will receive$ 22, 100.
This year’s -1 cut line marked the first PGA Championship with a split line below par and was n’t finalized until late on Saturday night. After a game contractor was hit by a shuttle van and died early on Friday night, the PGA of America delayed around two shirt times by 80 days. Friday nights in the face of darkness, when the game was suspended, and the cloud that delayed the start of the morning play.

The PGA Championship’s prize money has substantially increased since LIV Golf’s start, in line with other high-profile golf competitions. When Phil Mickelson, who was 50 years old, won the event, the total prize money was$ 5 million in 2000 and steadily increased to$$ 12 million in 2021. However, the purse has increased by 54 % in the last three years. This year, sixteen LIV golfers competed at Louisville’s Valhalla Golf Club.
The entire prize money for the PGA Championship is slightly under the$ 20 million tournament wallet from the 2024 Masters. Scottie Scheffler, who found himself in the back of a police vehicle Friday night, earned$ 3.6 million for winning his second Masters name in April. Last month, the PGA payment ranked fourth among the four disciplines, ahead of only the English Open’s$ 16.5 million. The U. S. Open was first at$ 20 million.
The PGA’s most profitable occurrence, excluding the FedEx Cup prizes at year- finish, is the Players Championship, which paid a total bag of$ 25 million in March, including$ 4.5 million for winner Scheffler. The PGA Championship payout is less than the$ 20 million purse in the PGA Tour’s 13 “elevated” events, as well as the$ 20 million for the typical LIV Golf tournament.
Scheffler, is already on top of this week’s PGA Tour money income record at$ 18.7 million, more than double the total of No. 2 Wyndham Clark at$ 9.2 million. Dean Burmester is in second place with$ 7.3 million after seven events in 2024, behind Joaquin Niemann, who is the best earner.
