Adrian Beltré, Todd Helton, Joe Mauer, and Jim Leyland were inducted on Sunday on the stage behind Cooperstown, New York, on Sunday. The National Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2024 is now full.
The first time their names appeared on the writers ‘ ballot was in January, Beltré, Helton, and Mauer were chosen by qualified members of the Baseball Writers ‘ Association of America. Leyland, who managed various clubs in his profession, was the only person elected in December off the eight-person vote of the 16-member Contemporary Era Non-Players Committee.
Beltré appeared on 95.1 % of the 394 ballots submitted, while Helton garnered 79.7 % and Maurer had 76.1 %, squeaking in by four votes. Billy Wagner should be elected future time when Ichiro Suzuki is expected to be a shoo-in his first day on the BBWAA vote despite missing the 75 % level by five votes.

Sunday’s audience was estimated by the Hall at 20, 000, dual last week’s figure, which should be dwarfed second summer on July 27 for the training of Ichiro and apparently CC Sabathia, another first-time member.
Beltré, with his 3, 166 job visits, was only the 19th second baseman elected. Just behind shortstop, whose rates added Maurer, the 21st Hall of Famer who spent his career mainly behind the plate, to the list of positions in the Hall where second base is most represented.
However, it’s the second time in a row that writers have chosen a second baseman. Next year, Scott Rolen rarely made it with his name on 76.3 % of the 389 votes cast. Fred McGriff, a second baseman who was chosen by an Time Committee, joined him as an inductee next year.
Beltré played for four team: the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox. At the age of 19, LA signed him from the Dominican Republic as an global completely agent. He spent seven seasons there.
He praised his teammates and managers on each of those clubs, saying he had already learned a valuable lesson.
” You’re only as good as what you do on your next pitch”, he said. ” Ball was my love and I truly loved it”, he said in finish.
Beltré hit a lot of great pitches, adding a.286 regular and 477 batters to all those visits.
Helton, a second baseman who played his whole 17-year occupation for the Colorado Rockies, had a very good chance at being voted in, this was his fifth day on the ballot, missing the Course of 2023 by only 11 seats with 72.2 %.
He is the second Rockies player in the Hall of Fame by two years, but he is the first to play his entire career there, where he hit.316 and recorded 2, 519 hits and 369 home runs.
Helton claimed to the audience that his” superstitions were excessive” and that he was a creature of habit as a player.
” It made sense to nobody but me”, he said.
He shared a tale of a speeding ticketholder who traveled to nearby Colorado Springs to play in Colorado Springs. He struck three shots that day.

The next day…” I took the same route, went the same speed and the same officer gave me the same ticket”, Helton recalled. ” I did n’t care. That day, I received three hits as well. I requested a third day meeting with the officer, and he graciously accepted me.
Mauer won three batting titles as the only American League catcher to do so. He played his entire 15-year career with the hometown Minnesota Twins, batting .306 and catching 921 games before his knees began to break down.
” For as long as I can remember baseball has had a central part of my life and the life of my family”, Maurer, a local native of St. Paul, Minn., and the seventh Twin to enter the Hall, said in his opening.
He later discussed how difficult it is to play and succeed in a game.
” Baseball is about so much more than winning or losing”, he said. It takes grit to play this game. It teaches the important lessons of hard work, patience and dedication. In baseball, you’ll inevitably have to give up more than win. You’re going to need to adjust and it’s going to be tough. These are the values I want to impart to my children.
Leyland enlisted in the Hall along with three of his managerial contemporaries. Bobby Cox, Tony La Russa, and Joe Torre were all honored in 2014. Leyland and the Florida Marlins won the World Series in 1997 and lost to the San Francisco Giants in 2012 to the St. Louis Cardinals of La Russa in 2006. His Team USA in 2017 is the only U. S. club to win the World Baseball Classic.
He was well-known for his sharp old-school baseball skills and his fiery demeanor.
In a presentation video, Andy Van Slyke, who played center field for him in Pittsburgh, claimed that Leyland once yelled at him as a young player for striking out too much.
” He called me Andy Van Strikeout”, Van Slyke recalled.
Leyland, choking back tears throughout his speech, thanked every player who played for him in the majors or the minors.
” Because I would n’t be here without you”, he said.
He’s now there along with the current trio of players as the 23rd manager, making it a total of 346 members of the red-bricked museum on Main Street–274 of them players.
