Lamar, Allen Highlight a Historic Season for Dual-Threat QBs

As the NFL season nears the quarterfinals, Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen have been two of the most talked-about players in the league. The leading MVP applicants have accelerated the team’s transition from a passing-QB time like Tom Brady’s to a mostly dual-threat quarterback period.
This time, NFL players ran for 11, 015 feet, smashing the record of 10, 231 from 2022 by 8 %. This season’s total represents an increase of 35 % over 2019 and 56 % over 2014 ( adjusted for 17-game versus 16-game schedules ). In 2024, players gained more than half as many yards rushing as they did in 2009, and they now account for 6 % of all feet game.
Former NFL player Robert Griffin III, a “godfather of aspects to the motion,” posted on X on Monday,” 7 of the 8 QBs in the NFL Divisional Round of the Finals are smart QBs.” The” New Prototypical NFL QB” is always moving.

The 2024 quarterback group no doubt contributed to the jump. The four full-time first-year starters—Jayden Daniels, Caleb Williams, Bo Nix and Drake Maye—finished next, sixth, eighth and ninth among all QBs in rushing feet.
Daniels, who led the Washington Commanders to their first playoff win in 19 years, is among a trio of signal-callers in the regional square running at a history-making level.
Daniels ‘ 52.4 career rushing yards per game after just one season is the second highest in NFL history, trailing only Jackson ( 59.9 YPG) in the record books. This trip, Jackson will face the Buffalo Bills on Sunday nights.
As far as running patterns, if Jackson and Daniels are speedsters, next Philadelphia Eagles ‘ Jalen Hurts and the Bills ‘ Josh Allen are juggernauts. They are exceptions in scores per game, averaging 0.71 and 0.59, both, good for the top two signs among all QBs since 1970 who have made a full month’s worth of looks. Hurts, a 6-foot-1 cannon ball, is nearly 20 pounds heavier than the 6-foot-2 Jackson, while Allen at 6-foot-5 and 237 weight can be more accurately described as a wrecking ball.
The Ravens-Bills divisional-round activity this Sunday night is a fantasy game for fans of dual-threat players and contrasts in style. At only 28 years old, Jackson and Allen have produced ancient career statistics. Allen is on pace to surpass the score level second season while Jackson is the all-time QB president in full rushing yards. In terms of playoff rushing yards, they are already the best two all-time.

Finally there’s Patrick Mahomes, the three-time Super Bowl MVP, who makes brake performs with his arms time and time again. Before Mahomes did it in each of the Kansas City Chiefs ‘ win over the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowls 54 and 58, no player had ever won a game in which he ran the ball more than seven days.
Mahomes, though, is also generally a quarterback. The majority of real dual-threat quarterbacks have had to make a lot of mistakes. Only one of the 71 regular-season quarterbacks who ran for at least 500 miles won the Super Bowl: Russell Wilson in 2013. While Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton, and Hurts have all lost in the final game, Allen and Jackson have so far been on the outside looking in, with Mahomes and the Chiefs having won four of their previous five times.
These rushing players have ushered in a new century of NFL offence, whether or not they won the Super Bowl. Griffin, however, does have exaggerated when he grouped seven of the eight players still standing in the finals together under the “mobile” brand. He eventually made it clear that Matthew Stafford, who this season with the Rams rushed for only 41 yards, was also included.
In a repost of Griffin’s post, former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick wrote,” The most yards I rushed for in a season was 304 .” We didn’t identify you as a “mobile QB” if you haven’t rushed for more than that in a year.
