The Seattle Kraken are the most recent professional sports team to overhaul local broadcast transmission. The NHL’s youngest company may leave Root Sports Northwest in the offseason and will transmit its games for free on two TENGA spread affiliates stations as well as on Amazon Prime Video streaming in three state. 15 Kraken activities that are not on national TV will be aired on KING 5, with the other 15 scheduled to be broadcast on KING 5.
The Kraken are the first NHL team to collaborate with a streaming services to offer local spread of games over over the heat television, despite being the newest team to do so.
” Today’s announcement is a game changer for our enthusiasts”, Kraken user Sam Holloway said in a statement. We want to expand the ways that people can enjoy our games, whether they are on the go or at home. It’s a dream come true to include Prime Video and TEGNA as reliable lovers. I’m eager for more people to fall in love with Kraken sports.

According to Kraken chief operating officer Victor de Bonis, one particular pattern proved to be a key driver for the streaming portion of this native sporting distribution model. De Bonis said in an interview,” That was important because Prime members wo n’t be charged an incremental fee to get our games.”
The Kraken are not the first Climate Pledge Arena staff to collaborate with Prime Video. Their neighbors, the WNBA’s Seattle Storm, have streamed their activities on the company since 2022 for their supporters in Washington position. Between these streaming agreements and the arena’s politically conscious naming rights, Amazon has ruled out domestic sports in its town, for what it’s for.
The new package, however, gives the Kraken complete control over sport generation, which was formerly a Root Sports function.
Because our local broadcast was no. 1, we have the opportunity to get on the production of the broadcast, which we’re really looking forward to. 1 in the club”, de Bonis said. ” Because of us being one step closer to the material, the story, the people, we hope to provide more for our supporters to get them to fall in love with our team also more”.
Because the Kraken lack capital in Root Sports Northwest, the shift to Prime Video and TENGA makes sense. This is unlike the Seattle Mariners, which purchased Warner Bros. Discovery owns a stake in the network following the media company’s announcement to stop operating in the RSN company in March 2023. ( WBD shuttered two other RSNs in Denver and Pittsburgh. )
In the last five decades, RSNs have lost roughly one-third of wire clients. Around 34.4 million people nationwide have cut the cord since 2018, reducing the use of the standard pay-TV package to less than half of all U.S. TV households.
The scandal surrounding RSNs caused severe declines in the value of any equity held by teams in the burgeoning channels as part of the related company category according to Sportico’s most recent MLB franchise valuations. Root Sports Northwest generated$ 64 million of cash flow in 2019 but lost$ 19 million in 2023, according to Kagan Research.
