According to NBA regulations, Joel Embiid’s famous throw against a newspaper columnist resulted in a seven-figure payment.
Embiid, who tangled with Philadelphia Inquirer poet Marcus Hayes on Saturday, may sacrifice about$ 1 million in income because of his three-game paid suspension. But that wealth does not disappear. A league representative confirmed that the NBA will address his lost money like a sizable great and redirect it to worthwhile causes.
The National Basketball Players Association will select half of the funds for a volunteer, and the other half will choose the NBA. The collective bargaining agreement, which was ratified in 2023, establishes the planning percent.

During Saturday’s event, Embiid pushed Hayes following a linguistic back-and-forth about an Inquirer narrative that questioned whether Embiid’s work ethic may make his brother and soon brother happy. The sports operations section of the league released a report on the incident on Tuesday and made an announcement about its punishment.
In a statement from the NBA, executive vice president of hockey operations Joe Dumars stated that “mutual admiration is paramount to the relationship between people and press in the organization.” While we understand Joel was offended by the reporter’s column’s private character, “interactions must be skilled on both sides and can never change physical.”
Embiid has not yet released a statement regarding his paid disqualification. The 76ers are off Tuesday day but will experience the Los Angeles Clippers—and the media—on Wednesday.
The NBA’s great and abandoned pay type is similar to the NFL’s, which furthermore sends funds to charity. In the NFL, 50 % of all charges go to the People Assistance Trust, which is an NFLPA-run software to help retired people acclimate to existence after football. According to the NFL’s CBA, the remaining 50 % is donated to” charitable organizations” jointly run by the NFL and the NFLPA.
When Embiid is medically cleared to return to the court, his suspension will begin. Due to a knee injury, he has missed the team’s first six games.
