Jets Owner Lambastes NFL Network Over ‘Irresponsible Report’

It’s not often that an NFL team owner had lashes out at a group- owned residence, but that’s what New York Jets user Woody Johnson did on Thursday. The Johnson heir reacted furiously to a claim made in an NFL Network radio that claimed he had a heated debate with head coach Robert Saleh at club meetings earlier in the week in Orlando.
” All this nonsense about a heated debate between Coach Saleh and me at the League Meeting is absolutely false”, Johnson, the former U. S. ambassador to the U. K., posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. It’s” a further reckless report from NFL Network.” Choose disrespect”.
According to Colleen Wolfe, who claimed an unknown source told her that the two gentlemen had a “very heated talk” that turned out to be unpleasant, the statement came from Around the NFL, an NFL Network radio hosted by Colleen Wolfe. There is n’t much context in the actual podcast discussion about this alleged shouting match, despite the fact that this certainly makes Jets fans want to reach for some Lexapro.

Wolfe herself kept the fire burning. ” It could have been about anything”, she said on the radio. They might have been arguing over how to cook their hamburgers. Doubt that, though”!
However, the group of Wolfe, Dan Hanzus and Marc Sessler tiptoed around different words for “argument” and generally joked about what the people could have had this “heated talk” about. At the end, but, Hanzus brought up one plausible on- area topic—embattled quarterback Zach Wilson’s standing with the group.
Later on Thursday, Wolfe posted a statement of explanation to the Jets firm on X, saying she was” told of the trade” by a presenter but that “others on page Sunday evening have since reached out and described the conversation differently.
Johnson’s gripe is unique because it is uncommon for a media outlet to criticize its own products, as well as because NFL Media has recently received criticism on a number of fronts.
The league is frequently questioned about whether large media companies that rely heavily on their NFL relationships can simultaneously cover the league in a fair and balanced way. Earlier this year, the league was reportedly in talks about taking an equity stake in ESPN, renewing concerns about the network’s and league’s already close relationship. A scripted TV program called Playmakers was once canceled by ESPN to apease a league executive who was unhappy with the way the sport and its players were perceived. NFL Media looked into selling a minority stake back in 2021, but it’s worth mentioning.
The network has also been at odds with its employment practices, when it declined to renew Jim Trotter’s contract after he publicly criticised the commissioner for the league’s diversity efforts in 2023. Trotter began his column work with The Athletic in September, and he then sued the NFL, alleging he was punished for making out about racial discrimination in the organization.
