Former NFL quarterback JaMarcus Russell is facing legal action for a$ 74, 000 check that was intended to be used as a contribution to Williamson High School in Alabama.
Next year Navigator Credit Union sued Russell, the No. 1 get in the 2007 NFL draft, in Mobile County Circuit Court alleging it lent him about$ 55, 000 as part of him depositing the test. A few months ago, Russell became a second- group plaintiff in the same dispute by suing Christopher Knowles and his company, Selwonk Enterprises, for$ 74, 000 plus attention and disciplinary damages. Russell claims Knowles—who wrote the check — “stopped payment on the check causing]Russell ] substantial losses”. As Russell tells it, Knowles is liable for making “false images” as part of his move to stop pay.

When Knowles spoke with WKRG in Mobile, he provided a very unique account. Knowles claimed that Russell, who reportedly persuaded Knowles that the Williamson High basketball team needed fresh weight-room equipment, was the author of the check. Knowles eventually expressed concern when he discovered that there was no record of the payment being made. When asked for a ticket or other information, Russell allegedly refused to provide supporting evidence and stopped answering Knowles ‘ calls.
Russell was sworn in as a volunteer assistant football coach by Williamson High next fall, but the latter was done. The college has declined to explain the situation, but has gone so far as to forbid Russell to “be around the football or on the college campus.” According to WKRG, Williamson High has n’t seen any money made from the intended donation. A test is scheduled for this October.
Russell, 38, played for the Pirates from 2007 to 2009. The Raiders signed the original LSU star to a six- season,$ 61 million agreement, with$ 32 million guaranteed. Russell struggled through 31 games, in which he only managed to get 23 interceptions and 18 touchdown passes and a mediocre 52 % go implementation rate. Some called the new income level the” JaMarcus Russell rule” when the NFL and NFLPA cooperatively bargained for a rookie contract control in 2011.
