According to a record in The Athletic, a past Jacksonville Jaguars staff was given a six and a half year prison sentence on Tuesday for defrauding the group of more than$ 22 million.
Amit Patel, a member of the team’s finance ministry, admitted to felony wire fraud and illegal financial transactions in December 2023. According to Sportico, Patel could receive up to 30 years in prison if found guilty and given a test sentence for the charges brought by American counsel Roger Handberg.
From September 2019 through February 2023, Patel created fictitious charges on the Jaguars ‘ virtual credit card program, or VCC, and then sent fictitious invoices to the player’s accounting department as evidence of the fraudulent charges.
Patel used the unrestricted cash to fund a lavish lifestyle, including purchasing a condominium, a luxurious car, a designer watch valued at more than$ 95, 000, golf equipment, cryptocurrency, and other items. His attorney, Alex King, claimed Patel had an unhealthy playing habit that included daily fantasy sports like football.

Assistant U.S. attorney Michael J. Coolican reported to The Athletic that Patel continued to spend money at country clubs and even purchased a$ 2,200 “game issued” Trevor Lawrence jersey online a week before his December guilty plea.
Patel was in charge of the Jaguars ‘ financial planning and research from 2018 until his dismissal last month. He served the staff from 2018 until February of last year. He served as the” sole administrator” of the VCC, giving him full authority to charge all team members.
Patel told the court at punishment that he would” have before you embarrassed, guilty, and frustrated by my activities.” Additionally, he was required to pay the Jaguars$ 21 million in compensation.
