Glen” Great Baby” Davis was convicted by a jury in November of conspiring to make false claims relating to health care issues, one matter of health care fraud, and one count of wire fraud, and he was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni to 40 months in prison and three years of supervised release.
The accusations against Davis in the Southern District of New York stem from Davis ‘ involvement in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the NBA players ‘ health and benefit plan.
Davis, 38, faced the possibility of being sentenced to years in captivity, though sentencing guidelines recommended a word of between 37 to 46 weeks.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams pleaded with Caproni to give him a word within the recommended range in a punishment memo. Williams wrote that Davis was more guilty than his inc- conspirators, some of whom “merely made a false distribution” to the benefit program. Davis went farther by utilizing forged names, visiting a doctor” for a fraudulent interview”, and lying to the policy’s guidance.
Williams alleged that Davis “knowingly” engaged in numerous cheating operations to gain NBA people and their people. Davis “was clever and call,” according to the evidence he had been playing at the trial, and “knew precisely how to use the plan and mislead it”
Davis also participated in the structure through others. He sent “fake payments” to his business director, Edgar Abrams, instead of filling out insurance claim types for himself. Williams repeatedly warned Davis about the necessity of making valid states and frequently raised the alarm that Abrams began to become suspicious.
Sabrina Shroff, Davis ‘ lawyer, requested that Caproni impose a word of occasion served, three decades of controlled release, community service, and extra provisions for mental health and addiction treatment.
Shroff’s letter described Davis as having a tough childhood in Louisiana. He played activities, but having never met his biological father saved him. Davis is depicted as a “kind and trusting” learner who is also “poor.”
Additionally, Shroff included snippets from a letter from NBPA lawyers Ron Klempner, who claimed that Davis “epitomized this gentle big character and attitude.” According to Klempner, Davis never used bad judgment because he had evil intentions or any sense of malice,” I do n’t believe it ever was.”
Shroff also cited the feelings of Columbia Medical Center clinical neuropsychologist Elise Caccappolo, whose studies supported a diagnosis of Davis as “intellectually disabled” —and, by implication, less culpable for his crimes. According to Caccappolo, Davis “has a high level of naiveté that may lead him to be victimized” and that” society would be better served by providing him with a program of medical support that helps him understand his specific strengths and recognize the consequences of his actions in order to assist him in developing resiliency and good coping skills.”

The letter went on to claim that Davis ‘ nickname, Big Baby, “recognizes these cognitive and emotional limitations”. Davis attributed the nickname to several factors, including the fact that he was a 14-pound baby when he was born.
