And despite Vegas previously again putting its best feet forward as host—drawing an announced 35, 050 for a split registration double on Saturday, up substantially from last year’s 34, 854—the NBA has put Vegas on carry. This area is nowhere near the NBA expansion company that it once enjoyed a year ago.

The NBA grew from 17 groups to 30 from 1980 to 2004, but the club hasn’t added a company since then. Since the Supersonics moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2006, there hasn’t been a group moving anywhere in the league.
The NBA has assumed that it would relocate to Seattle and add a second squad to Vegas for decades. More recently, Mexico City, where the NBA plays an annual regular winter sport, has been touted as a possibility, though protection, industry issues and living arrangements for players pose major hurdles.
