Update: On Saturday nights, Canelo Alvarez defeated Jaime Munguia in a majority vote. This was Munguia’s first lost, and Alvarez defended his integrated super lightweight name.
Two of the greatest fighters of all-time have been throwing jabs at one another in expectation of the sport’s monthly takeover of Las Vegas on Cinco de Mayo weekend, again companions in their collective dominance of the fighting world. However, Saul” Canelo” Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya are n’t fighting each other in the ring on Saturday. Rather, they have been engaged in a specially dirty war of words, years after Alvarez split from Golden Boy Promotions over claims that De La Hoya, the brawler- turned- producer, has been stealing money from fighters.

Alvarez, the unquestioned super middleweight fighter, is set to support his belt against the tournament Jaime Munguia, the latest savant under the Golden Boy symbol. On the first Saturday in May, which is typically the busiest day of the year for activities, But Munguia seems to be an afterthought.
Alvarez, who first started working in his local Mexico at the age of 15, signed with Golden Boy Promotions in 2010 after accumulating outstanding results against generally undiscovered talent. As the age of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao came to an end, Canelo’s arrival came at an exciting time for fighting. Alvarez and DAZN, a sports channel that was attempting to change the status of battle sports in the United States, signed what was then the biggest sports deal in history, signing what was then the largest sports deal ever.
When the coronavirus pandemic caused the majority of live sports to resume, Alvarez faced opposition. Alvarez, DAZN, and Golden Boy debated the opponent, the purse he’d take home as boxing promoters resumed fight cards in the second half of 2020. Eventually, Alvarez wanted out, claiming than an audit from his lawyers uncovered missing payouts. In September of this year, he sued the streamer and promoter for violating their contracts with him.
Canelo was released from the contract two months later, but the feud has persisted ever since. Alvarez frequently claimed that the promotion’s use of marijuana had had an impact on De La Hoya’s business.
De La Hoya and Alvarez exchanged a total rebuke on Wednesday during the final press conference prior to the fight, sending the rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake on fire right now. De La Hoya left after demanding that Alvarez “put some respect on his name” and asserting that Canelo’s promotion had made him one of the biggest sports stars.
” Yes, I’ve been to rehab several times”, De La Hoya said. ” Yes, there were some really low points in my life. And yes, there were times when I had to give up on my mental health because it was n’t my top priority. However, Golden Boy continued to build Canelo during this time frame.

After lobbing a few expletives and slurs, Alvarez took the dais and retorted in Spanish,” This idiot, this]guy ] here to my left, try not to forget that I was already’ Canelo’ when I came to the United States and that he only profited from my name”.
Alvarez continued:” He never lost a single cent, but instead made money. Have you already given ( Gennady ) Golovkin the money you owed him? Golovkin sued Golden Boy in 2018 for payments made in the third and final fight of his trilogy against Alvarez, according to that barb. ( Both sides settled, and De La Hoya said Golovkin was paid in full. )
De La Hoya and Alvarez wo n’t be getting married any time soon, especially after Canelo’s camp received a legal threat on Thursday morning by issuing a cease-and-desist letter in which he is being asked to retract allegedly defamatory statements made about him.
For what it’s worth, Canelo’s not hurting for cash—the 33- year- old has earned over a half billion dollars in the ring. On Saturday, Alvarez will fighting Munguia, not De La Hoya. The two combatants have been largely respectful of one another, but it would n’t be a surprise if Canelo envisions De La Hoya’s face on Munguia’s body in the ring.
