Sport’s world governing system FIFA docked Canada’s women’s soccer team six points from its Olympics team level full, severely denting its chances of moving on to the game’s knockout stage and defending its gold medal from the 2021 Games. In response to the erupting aircraft spying incident this week, FIFA also suspended women’s football coach Bev Priestman for a time.
A helicopter over the area as its women’s soccer team practiced away of its opening game against Canada, New Zealand filed a complaint on Monday. Police tracked the helicopter to a team member on the French women’s group, which defeated New Zealand 2-1 Thursday.
Priestman was not the New Zealander’s instructor. Priestman was suspended by the Canadian Olympic Committee for the duration of the Olympics and until an impartial review may be carried out once more hacking incidents were exposed on Friday.

” Over the past 24 hrs, further information has come to our attention regarding past aircraft use against competitors, predating the Paris 2024 Olympic Games”, Kevin Blue, Canada Soccer CEO, said in a Friday statement. Blue revealed that the men’s team even used drones at big events, including at this season’s Copa America.
Jasmine Mander, the assistant manager for women, and Joseph Lombardi, the employee, received one-year bans. The Canadian soccer federation was fined 200, 000 Swiss francs ($ 226, 000 based on current exchange rates ).
FIFA said in a statement that” the officers were each found guilty of offensive actions and a violation of the principles of fair play in relation with the use of the CSA’s Women’s official team’s drones.”
Priestman served as the women’s regional team’s manager in 2020 and helped Canada win the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo. She just signed a deal modification that will run until 2027.
Canada had the eighth-best conflict at golden before the Paris Olympics started, according to FanDuel Sportsbook. The U. S. is a slight favorite over Spain.
Canada plays France on Sunday in Saint-Etienne, France.
