Peacock’s Summer Olympics bump looks to have been short-lived as NBC Universal’s streaming platform closed out the year without having added to its Paris haul. Per Comcast’s fourth-quarter and full-year income effects, Peacock closed out 2024 with 36 million clients, and while that was up versus the 31 million subreddits it had corralled at the end of 2023, the range is stable when compared to the three-month phase that concluded Sept. 30. Economists had anticipated that Comcast would release a headcount of about 37.6 million Peacock customers. Shares of Comcast were down 12.37 % to$ 32.74 in midday trading. During the third that was in line with the Paris Summer Games, Peacock added about 3 million fresh channels. That streamers also posted$ 436 million in losses during that time, before halting the bleeding with another$ 362 million loss in Q4. That former figure marks a significant turnaround compared to the company’s year-ago effect (-$ 825 million ). In the last two decades, Peacock has burned through roughly$ 3.75 billion. Comcast has not yet issued advice on when the support may return to full employment. Revenue improved 28 % in the final quarter to$ 1.3 billion, while the full-year haul was up 49 % to$ 4.9 billion. Verizon president Mike Cavanagh acknowledged earlier today during a conference call with investors that the fresh NBA right agreement with NBC Sports would likely result in another rate increase for Peacock. A price increase may not be in place until after NBC’s first year with the group, which will end in the second quarter of 2026, Cavanagh continued. In light of the addition of this “higher-value information,” Comcast anticipates seeing a rise in advertising sales for the program in illumination of the 11-year agreement between NBC and the NBA, which may require an average yearly rights cost of$ 2.45 billion in trade for a 100-game package. Almost all of those matches will be available on Peacock. Peacock made up roughly 1.5 % of all video consumption in the United States last year, rising to 2.1 % in the Olympian month of August. By way of comparison, the top three streamers that same month were YouTube, with 10.6 % of video share, Netflix ( 7.9 % ) and Amazon Prime Video ( 3.1 % ). Comcast’s media unit posted$ 7.22 billion in revenue for the quarter, up from$ 6.98 million. Domestic ad sales were flat at$ 2.65 billion, while stateside distribution revenue grew 5 % to$ 2.89 billion. On the pay-TV before, Comcast reported a reduction of 1.58 million home videos subscribers in 2024, bringing the company’s overall wire base to 12.5 million households. That marks an 11 % drop compared to the year-ago period, and a 22 % decline compared to the 16.1 million cable-TV subs it boasted at the end of 2022. In the last five years, Comcast has lost 7.77 million pay-TV customers, which translates to an destruction of 38 % of its foundation. That attrition rate is in keeping with a 42 % cut across the cable/satellite/telco-TV world. Comcast even lost 139, 000 local bandwidth customers during the quarter. ( The company had projected a lighter loss of 100, 000 internet subs during a December investment conference. ) In spite of the many consumer defections, the company’s communication and platforms system posted$ 20.5 billion in revenue on the quarter, great for a$ 46 million gain.
