Juan Soto was introduced by the New York Mets at a press conference on Thursday at his new job in Queens, a few blocks from the Bronx, where he spent the past year playing for the New York Yankees. The four-time All-Star has actually joined the Mets after signing a document 15-year,$ 765 million package.
The richest deal in professional sports story, which was finalized on Wednesday, turned eyes. Just one year after the Chinese prodigy signed a 10-year contract worth$ 700 million, it exceeded the value of Los Angeles Dodgers two-way celebrity Shohei Ohtani’s contract.
However, Ohtani’s historic contract included$ 680 million in deferred money ( a full 97 % of his salary ), which will be paid out from 2034 through 2043. According to sports mega-agent Scott Boras, the Mets ‘ payment architecture was not taken into account during the negotiations.

” That was never a trail that we followed”, Boras said in an exam after Soto’s appearance in Queens. Team offered suggestions, but we ended up with a package that was still in the realm of value.
Soto’s contract, which has a potential total value of$ 805 million based on an option, has no deferred money and included a$ 75 million signing bonus.
Boras, who has negotiated billion for his customers since he started representing football players in 1980, said that he isn’t against deals that include delayed pay, pointing to the five-year,$ 182 million offer he negotiated for Ohtani’s fresh partner, Blake Snell. The two-time Cy Young Award winner will defer$ 66 million through 2046 ($ 13 million per season ) as part of his new agreement.
” I got a$ 52 million signing bonus to go with it”, Boras said of Snell’s recent deal. ” It’s all about a balancing of value. You make inquiries and determine what is necessary and what is required for each team. … Some teams do ( deferrals ) and some teams don’t. They are very interested in knowing what you prefer.
Soto stated to reporters on Thursday that he was intrigued by the prospective monarchy the Mets may create. The Mets owner Steve Cohen physically hosted the 26-year-old standout from the Dominican Republic at his Beverly Hills mansion, which was a close call that attracted Soto from the Patriots.
Since he bought the Mets in 2020, Cohen has made the league one of the league’s best purchases as he tries to win their first World Series title since 1986.
” This was a dynamic method”, Cohen said at the news event. ” There were many groups involved. It was challenging to determine your position. It was a moving destination, and points were changing all the time. There are times when you start to wonder if you’re doing this successfully. In the end, I got the phone that I wanted”.

Soto apparently turned down a 16-year,$ 760 million give from the Yankees, who just fell to the Dodgers in the World Series. The Mets extended the sun outfielder’s winning deal offer by providing personal safety for his home for home and road activities as well as a luxurious hotel at Citi Field, according to the Associated Press. The Yankees did not provide a complimentary suite, which is usual for the team, even for the biggest celebrities.
Soto, who claimed he hasn’t spoken to his former Yankees friends since the World Series work, was drawn to the Mets ‘ family-friendly atmosphere. The home care package and record-setting income combined to seal the deal.
They showed me a lot of passion from the perspective of how they were going to try to make it secure for me, Soto continued. That’s what impressed me, especially how they’re going to treat people in my home. That’s one of the items that I was looking for”.
