Bally Sports RSNs Go Dark After Optimum Carriage Deal Expires

As conversations to maintain the tradition vehicle deal expired at midnight, the Bally Sports RSNs are no longer broadcast on Altice USA’s Optimum cable networks. The technician, which provides 2.09 million video subscribers in 21 says, charged Diamond Sports Group with making “unsustainable requirements” for the 12 RSNs that were removed from its network lineup earlier this morning. An Optimum representative said it was absurd to demand subscribers bear the cost of rising vehicle fees while the RSNs ‘ future is uncertain in a nod to Diamond’s continued bankruptcy case. In a statement released on Monday, the spokesperson said,” We do not believe it is fair for Diamond… to ask customers to pay high rates for their channels.” The spokesperson said this in response to a statement released on Monday. The venues blacked out in their household areas include the Atlanta Braves, Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Los Angeles Angels, St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers. The inability to reach agreement on a registration with Optimum comes in the wake of Diamond’s consummation of its distribution agreement with Comcast. After Diamond objected to Comcast’s plan to switch the sports programmes to a more expensive online level, 15 of the Bally Sports RSNs went black on the cable bear’s portfolio two months ago. Since the divide was made established, discussions have not resumed. The judge overseeing Diamond’s bankruptcy case has stated that it is still to be seen if the deadlock will have an impact on the company’s long-term leads, even though Comcast had 13.6 million private video customers in the first quarter of 2024. ” Whether Comcast is essential to a deal or not, I do n’t know”, Judge Christopher Lopez said last month. The comparatively low stakes of the Optimum- Advisory conflict are unlikely to have much of a splash down in Houston, where the event is being heard, if the jury remains uncertain as to the significance of the Comcast impasse. By Diamond’s own judgment, it has secured leases with 10 of its 12 major companies, a squad that accounts for roughly 84 % of its general customer base. A DSG spokesperson said on Monday in a statement to Sportico that “it’s disappointing that Altice has chosen to stop airing our channels.”” We regret that fans are impacted,” We have been talking with Altice about how to proceed with Optimum’s continued distribution of the Bally Sports regional sports networks. Unfortunately, Altice has rejected numerous proposals with terms similar to those that other distributors have already agreed to, demanding carriage on a premium sports tier that would require fans to pay more to access the broadcasts of their favorite teams. This shows they are unwilling to let their subscribers continue to enjoy broadcasts of their favorite teams via FuboTV, in a note to customers. In late May, Diamond inked a multiyear carriage deal with Fubo, which finished the first quarter with 1.51 million subscribers. Per Altice’s most recent quarterly earnings report, Optimum saw its base of video customers shrink 12 % over the last year, which translates to a net loss of 285, 800 subscribers. That’s in keeping with an industry- wide 12.3 % drop in traditional bundled connections over the same 12- month period. In June 2016, Altice signed a$ 17.7 billion deal to buy the former Cablevision systems from James Dolan, the owner of the New York Knicks/Rangers. Judge Lopez ordered Diamond to provide its league partners with unreported copies of its carriage agreements with Cox, Charter, and DirecTV last month. The judge explained that Diamond must provide these financial details in order to present a viable plan for a possible bankruptcy release during a confirmation hearing that is scheduled to begin on July 29.
