Ahead of the 25th season of their rough, the Houston Astros agreed to a 15-year special venue naming right package with Daikin, supplanting Coca-Cola’s Minute Maid as the labeling right partner. Economic terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The retractable ceiling venue, which replaced the Astrodome, the first-ever vaulted sports venue that is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places, will bear the name Daikin Park.
Founded in 1924 in Osaka, Japan, Daikin is the world’s biggest producer of air conditioning. Additionally, it produces mechanical systems and health equipment. The Fortune 1000 company’s North American division had its western office in Houston when it first launched its North American section in 2004.
Owner and president Jim Crane, the team’s owner and chairman, said,” Daikin is an international organization that proudly calls the Greater Houston area its North American home.” ” I’m pleased to have Daikin with us as we celebrate the 25th celebration of this rough in 2025, and we’re hoping to bring even more special memories to our followers today and in the future.”
Enron Field was the initial name of Daikin Park after the electricity investing company forged a 30-year,$ 100 million deal with the staff. The business, however, went bankrupt in 2001 after being involved in one of the biggest accounting crises in U.S. past. The Astros settled with Enron after a legal battle to end the labeling right agreement and agreed to a new agreement with Houston-based Minute Maid. Additionally, according to reports, the offer with the manufacturer of orange juice cost$ 100 million over a 30-year time.
The company will remain a part of the Astros through 2029 despite the numerous years-long naming right alliance with Minute Maid.
” We want to bless Minute Maid and The Coca-Cola Company for their long-standing support of our ballpark,” Crane said. We are thrilled that they will continue to be an Astros ‘ partner for many years to come because Minute Maid arrived at a very crucial time in our history.
Houston continues to be one of the better MLB businesses despite the sign-stealing controversy surrounding its 2017 World Series victory. The Astros have won the ALCS twice in eight straight years, including four straight appearances in the fall classic ( two wins ), and seven straight losses in the playoffs. Their previous losing streak ended in October when they lost to the Detroit Tigers in the Wild-Card round.
Valued at$ 3.21 billion, the Astros rank sixth in Sportico’s MLB company estimates. In 2011, Crane purchased the franchise from Drayton McLane for$ 615 million, a discounted price after Crane was given a$ 70 million” concession” by MLB for agreeing to move the franchise to the American League as part of MLB’s divisional realignment. Since joining the National League in 1962 as the Colt.45s, the Astros have played there since.
The team made$ 544 million in revenue in 2023, which placed them fourth in the league, trailing only the Los Angeles Dodgers, Boston Red Sox, and New York Yankees. Revenue grew by 13 % versus the 2022 campaign that ended with Houston’s next World Series title.
