The NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves and WNBA’s Minnesota Lynx will now be the exclusive owners of both Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez ‘ collaborated with private equity firm Dyal Capital to pay a debt. A week before the transaction deadline, which would give Lore and Rodriguez a controlling stake in the team under the continuous multipart deal, was received by the newest minimal partner.
The announcement was first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania. After negotiations between the NBA and private equity firm Carlyle Group brokered, Lore and Rodriguez were forced to switch to a different businessman. With the additional 40 % stake from this latest payment, the duo will own 80 % of the Timberwolves, pending approval from the league’s Board of Governors.

Existing companions within the approaching rights, including past Google CEO Eric Schmidt, increased their first purchase to complete the deal, according to a cause.
The Timberwolves and Dyal’s family firm, Blue Owl Capital, both declined to comment. A representative of Lore and Rodriguez also declined to comment, and the league did n’t respond right away.
Glen Taylor, the present owner of the Timberwolves, addressed the issues relating to the most recent funding round earlier this year. However, Rodriguez and Lore have been able to keep the package going despite his objections throughout the entire negotiation process, which started in 2021 when Taylor initially agreed to sell the staff at about a$ 1.5 billion assessment.
In addition, Dyal adds its fifth NBA team to its investment, which supports its plan to use its growing capital to purchase minority stakes in franchises. The property manager also has ties to the Charlotte Hornets, Sacramento Kings, and Atlanta Hawks. Prior to last year’s record-breaking$ 4 billion purchase of the Phoenix Suns, Dale previously owned a play in the group.
Dyal can take partial bets in an endless variety of businesses, unlike other PE businesses that have been approved to buy into NBA teams, but it also has the option to pay the NBA for a portion of its profits.
It’s unclear what portion of the group Dyal will own in the latest deal. The Timberwolves ( 47- 22 ), who are having one of their best seasons in years, were last valued at$ 2.8 billion, according to Sportico’s latest valuations. ( With guidance from Eben Novy- Williams. )
