Team USA has a fund of funds that it spends on things like winning medals. Here’s how it performed in the Paris Olympics.

At the Paris Olympics, Team USA won more awards than any other country. And it did but using a completely different money strategy.
While China and France have billions of dollars in government funding for their Olympian ambitions, Team USA is largely personally funded. Sportico broke down the “high-performance offers” that Team USA gives its team in a subsequent explanation videos in order to maximize its prize collection at the Olympics.
The high-performance offers have been described by Team USA executives as an “investment profile of types,” where the return on investment is expressed in gold, silver, and copper. There is a strong correlation between the number of medals that Team USA wins in a sport and the amount of funding provided by the sport’s national governing body ( NGG ). No sports gain more Summer Olympic medals than record &amp, area, swimming and acrobatics, and no NGBs receive more money than USA Track &amp, Field, USA Swimming and USA Gymnastics.

When you examine the data more carefully, you can see the granular changes. Consider, for instance, game climbing. The U.S. won one of the six awards awarded during the Olympic debut of sport climbing in Tokyo three years ago, but the group had a number of highly ranked players in the last few years, and the Paris number commission doubled the number of trophies up for grabs in 2024. As a result, USA Climbing’s assistance from Team USA more than doubled from 2020-21 to 2022-23.
