How Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy Prepped for New TGL Golf Challenge

Scott Armstrong, TGL VP of opposition systems and procedures, was this close to giving Tiger Woods guidance on his golf activity.
Woods just visited the new sport industry ahead of the league’s Jan. 7 comeback, eager to test every inches of the modern, football field-sized playing surface. Players will swing toward a 65-foot model screen while playing from trucked-in palettes of hand-cut healthy grass, where innovative cameras track the ball’s movement before representing it almost directly on the screen. Thirty new pits have been created to issue golf’s best, culminating in a real-world natural region that swivels and vibrates to create different surfaces. Three-person teams will compete in 15-hole games in both doubles and songs formats.

Woods spent more time investigating the differences between the synthetic grains in the small game area around that artificial clean after claiming 82 official PGA Tour victories and 15 main championships. After watching Woods flub a few chips, Armstrong had already witnessed past visitors, Armstrong opened his mouth only to notice Tiger changing the swing’s shape, sending a fumble shot curving into the atmosphere and landing inches from his target.
” He was like,’ OK, I got it,'” Armstrong recalled.” ‘ I’m really gonna go higher.'”
Similar adjustments have been made by Armstrong and another TGL executives as 24 PGA Tour players have set their own exercise times at the center. Golfers have also had to adjust to the overhead lights that makes reading the natural surface hard. That corn around the emerald has been especially hard.
Then there is the 40-second shot clock, which makes players believe more quickly than they might otherwise. A one-stroke sentence awaits those who can’t keep up.
” I’ve been caught out by the photo time a couple of times now in training”, Rory McIlroy said.
In the end, the benefits claim that understanding TGL’s flaws is similar to preparing for any new program on the timeline. Additionally, TGL founder Mike McCarley anticipates that the product will be a little common to sport fans around the world when it arrives in game time.
” I’ve talked to a lot of people that are playing in TGL, and first, I think they’re blown apart by the service and the venue—it’s everything like we’ve ever seen before, particularly in golf”, McIlroy said. ” It’s been quite the procedure. And I believe the execution will be very accurate. The only thing I believe the participants need to adjust to is the show’s circulation.

Woods has great hopes, despite the fact that he hasn’t won a PGA Tour championship since 2019. The 49-year-old who has had six distinct spine surgeries may find the two-hour events played within a condensed footprint more bearable. TGL’s area, which is located 30 minutes west of Tiger’s Jupiter property, may make it easier for him to fit practice sessions into his schedule. Yet the sand matches Woods ‘ garden bunkers—as well as the nets at Augusta National, where Tiger has claimed five clean coats.
But TGL wasn’t built for Tiger—at least not as a person.
When McCarley initially pitched the idea five years ago, he told Tiger he may take any position he wanted—a group landlord, a commander, a GM. Woods wanted to play.
” I remember he said…’ This is going to pull my aggressive liquids,'” McCarley said. He also has the ability to reach those exact shots. We’ve seen him engage in some incredibly bizarre behavior.
As co-founders of division controller TMRW Sports, Woods and McIlroy helped found TGL.
However, different people are determined to prevent TGL from becoming the Tiger Golf League. Armstrong was grilled by Justin Rose on the specific topography of the TGL greens, looking for precise edges. Min Woo Lee impressed staff members by recognizing each swing’s measures before TGL’s systems may yet spit them out and by scattering short shots all over the ground. McIlroy used his own launch monitors to test the internal calibration equipment.
Soon enough, players will be plenty comfortable with the TGL course’s idiosyncrasies. Billy Horschel believes that the difference between team competition and PGA Tour events will be in the way of the course. For TV, viewers will be mic’d up and encouraged to banter with one another. Fans will be feet from the action in SoFi Center’s horseshoe stands. The stars will be reflected by lights and cameras. They’ll be rewarded for taking preposterous holes seriously, but also for having fun along the way.

” I think the team that does the best is the team that enjoys it the most, embraces what it is, getting the fans involved, being entertainers”, Horschel said. That is the group of men who will do the best, in my opinion.
