Jeeno Thitikul, a 21-year older, four-year veteran of the LPGA Tour, won the largest prize in women’s sport past Sunday as she overcame a two-shot deficit on the last two openings to fight Angel Yin in the season-ending round in Naples, Fla.
With her second straight moment of shooting an eagle-birdie on the final two openings of the round, Thitikul finished first at the Tiburon Golf Club. The Thai local shot a 7-under-65 Sunday to shut the week at 22-under line, one shot forward of 26-year ancient American Angel Yin. According to ESPN, the pair were tied at the 18th green in Naples when Yin missed a 15-foot putt putt while Thitikul sank her 5-foot birdie to win.
The$ 4 million prize money is the biggest prize money in women’s golf history, part of an$ 11 million pot offered by CME Group, an owner of securities exchanges. Yin as the runner-up won$ 1 million. The rest of the bowl consisted of rewards of declining quantities awarded to golf, to$ 55, 000 for 60th area.
