Venture capital and private equity firms are investing in youth sports to expand their reach and capitalize on the abundance of phones and the development of AI to ensure that every activity is streamed.
As businesses rush into the area, they’re finding another organization is already there: GameChanger. Founded two decades ago as a portable bookkeeping software, GameChanger now offers squad management, in-app group messaging, advanced scorekeeping and statistics, and AI-powered streaming of more than 2.3 million youth and rec-league teams. Since the sporting goods giant’s success has been demonstrated, Gamechanger will generate$ 100 million in revenue this year, which is at least twice as much as Dick’s Sporting Goods did in 2016, while boosting the sporting goods industry’s bottom line.
Sameer Ahuja, the president of GameChanger and Dick’s senior vice president, spoke with Sportico’s sports financing reporter Brendan Coffey to discuss the growth prospects for Gamechanger, as well as his suggestions for fostering company commitment.
Every two weeks, there are more sports covered on GameChanger than there have been in American professional sports history. The size is only immense”, Ahuja said. Our goal is to find ways to enhance the experience for youth sports people, and a lot of that is centered around digital content, and the youth sports market is thought of as a$ 40 billion market with significant growth.
Ahuja’s history is as an investor in both sporting and finance. He co-founded the Sports Museum of America and has worked with hedge funds to profit from extraordinary business activities using machine learning and difficulty technology. He also acts as an assistant to Marquee Ventures, the Ricketts home VC finger that focuses on activities, media and entertainment companies.
The most powerful people in the sports and investing world are the subjects of our ordinary Sportico meeting series Coffey Talk. Marc Lasry, the co-heads of Ares Management’s sporting and entertainment bank, and Mark Affolter and Jim Miller, the billionaire entrepreneur and past Milwaukee Bucks owner, were in past shows.
