The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the San Diego Padres 11-2 in their last game of the regular season at Chase Field on Sunday, but their hopes of making it to the postseason are still hanging by a string.
Abroad, the Diamondbacks, the defending National League leaders, need support from the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets, the various team contending for the last two NL Wild Card games, to make the playoffs. The Braves lost, but the Mets won.
The 89-73 D-backs are now at the forgiveness of both teams as they await the results of Monday’s beauty double between the two in Atlanta, in which they added$ 53 million in payment and increased participation by a huge 366, 379.
One of those team must win in order to advance to the finals. If they split, the D-backs are gone and the Mets and Braves walk on.
