Reggie Bush Sues USC, Pac-12, NCAA for ‘Uncompensated’ NIL Use

Reggie Bush is suing the NCAA, the Pac-12, and USC for settlement over how the three organizations used his title, reputation, and image during his three seasons with the Trojans in the early 2000s.
McCathern Law, which represents Bush, said the three companies capitalized off his reputation as “revenue channels including attractive TV contracts, product sales, and broad media rights have generated large profits for these organizations, all directly linked to Reggie Bush’s notoriety”.
The lawsuit asserts that Bush was not given any compensation for his image and that the three businesses continued to receive financial benefits without acknowledging his efforts even after he left the NFL.

Attorney Evan Selik said in a statement that” this situation is not just about seeking justice for Reggie Bush.” It’s about setting a precedent for reasonable care of all school sports, he said. Our aim is to end this injustice and establish a system where players are given equal treatment for their efforts, as well as compensation.
Bush is now bringing legal action against the NCAA. He brought a lawsuit against the firm last August for defamation after Meghan Durham Wright, a spokeswoman for the NCAA, made comments to journalists in 2021 soon after NIL became a part of the NCAA’s new rules. Although Wright did n’t name Bush, Wright was answering a question about Bush when she said, “NCAA rules still do not permit pay-for-play type arrangements”.
Reggie will always be regarded as a part of the Trojan Family, and we were pleased to help him defend his Heisman Trophy, according to USC in a statement released on Monday. We are unable to handle the claims in the lawsuit because we have not received a copy of it.
The NCAA did n’t respond to a request for comment. The Pac-12 declined to comment.
In 2010, the NCAA accused Bush of improperly receiving money from a possible agent in connection with his potential NFL job, with the idea that Bush may work with the agent as an agent when the benefits approached him. Bush, who played 11 times in the NFL, maintains that he was never paid to play at USC.
In light of the NCAA’s NIL scheme, Bush received his 2005 Heisman Trophy back in April after the Heisman Trust returned it to him. After his 10-year breakup ( handed down by the NCAA ) ended that June, USC publicly welcomed Bush up to the Trojan family in 2020.
USC, however, has gone through geological changes in the nearly two decades since Bush left the school. In addition to Pete Carroll’s withdrawal after the 2009 period, the class has gone through numerous head coaches, including recent coach Lincoln Riley. The Pac-12’s transition to the Big Ten this summer, in exchange for higher internet income shares, was the biggest shift.
The law company acknowledged that USC has made an effort to repair the relationship between the school’s well-known student. We appreciate that the new USC leadership is attempting to repair the damage done to Reggie Bush by the previous services, according to Bush’s attorney, Levi G. McCathern II, in a speech. ” But, the delay in fixing this speaks quantities”. ( This story has been updated in the sixth paragraph with a note that the Pac-12 did not comment. )
