On Thursday, staff people at their hotel du Collectionneur officially protested for two hours, disrupting meal service, the day before the 2024 Olympic Opening Ceremony, giving the international Olympic Committee a proper introduction to France.
People are requesting their second increases since 2017 as a result of discussions with hotel management, according to the union department of CGT Paris trade group.
The IOC is paying €22 million to stay at the five-star hotel about a kilometer from the Arc de Triomphe, according to UD CGT Paris, who posted an online statement saying,” We ca n’t wait for the workers of the world to discover our French way of striking.”
The Olympiad’s more liquidity has recently been used by Parisians by the waiters, waiters, and other workers. A day earlier, the S. F. A. C. G. T. coalition announced a decision ensuring that hundreds of players may participate in Friday’s service in trade for increased broadcast revenues. Over 200 dancers had halted a practice on Monday in opposition of their pay.

They joined road workers, police officers, garbage enthusiasts and others who have all threatened job suspensions in the long run-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics. Six weeks after workers walked off the job in February, the Eiffel Tower was shut down for good and the landmark’s repair was required, as well as pay increases. Air traffic controllers on strike for a May weekend caused 70 % of Paris ‘ second-largest airport to be canceled.
In a statement, The Gate Collection, which runs Hôtel du Collectionneur, told The Guardian,” Conversations are progressing in a culture of mutual respect and cooperation. Our hotel likely continue to operate effectively during this time.
France really has a lower proportion of union members than Germany, the UK, or even the U.S., at 8 %. ( Officially, almost all jobs are collectively bargained through unions ) French workers have come to rely on extraordinary presentations for leverage rather than just numbers. In the 2010s, the common European individual striked for 1.3 time, the EU’s second highest tally during that period, according to the German Trade Union Institute.
In another instance of unrest, work issue expert Guy Groux told Time,” Unions and protest turning to extreme action around wind up competing with one another for the press coverage that creates.” ” The result is, there’s constant obligation to up the ante to ensure protests do n’t wind up ignored”.
Polls even regularly show open support for the protesters. In 2019, historian Jean Garrigues remarked that “revolt is necessary. There is a common conviction. That disdain of power is also how France’s comparatively small union membership rates are attributed.
More hits are possible coming your way. On Friday, a coalition of ground workers at nearby airports, including Paris Charles de Gaulle, discussed protests.
