According to Deadline, Coco Gauff has been chosen as Team USA’s female flag carrier for the opening meeting of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Gauff, who is the first golf person to be accorded the respect, will add three-time Olympic LeBron James in leading the U. S. group at the Opening Ceremony on Paris’s Seine River on Friday night.
In a press release from the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee ( USOPC ), Gauff stated,” I never thought in a million years I would have the honor of carrying the American flag for Team USA at the opening ceremony.
As we demonstrate our commitment and love on the biggest stage possible, at a time when we can send athletes and fans from all over the world, I could not be prouder to direct my teammates with LeBron.”
Gauff, who is the planet No. After testing positive for COVID, the second-place defending U.S. Open hero was forced to withdraw from the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Through a process led by the Team USA Athletes ‘ Commission, which serves as the official team and tone of Team USA players, she and James were chosen by a ballot of their fellow teammates.
They are the next duo to have the honor of leading the group at the ceremony’s opening. Of the 592 players who were named to the 2024 U. S. Olympic Team, more than 350 runners are set to join in Friday’s Opening Ceremony.
