On the point of a good tectonic shift in the NBA spread vehicle, one of the most recognizable faces of sports Television coverage over the past two decades, Charles Barkley, is calling it a career, Deadline reported.
The long-standing TNT journalist and Hall of Famer announced his retirement after the fourth game of the NBA Finals on Friday, disclosing his intentions for the 2024-25 time.
The announcement comes amid ferocious rumors that Warner Bros. is the TNT family company. NBC is about to cede the NBA freedom to Discovery.
” There’s been a lot of noise around our network the last few decades. I just want to say, I talked to all the other networks, but I ai n’t going nowhere other than TNT. But I have made the decision myself, no matter what happens, next month is going to be my last year on telly”, Barkley said. I just want to say thanks to the NBA community. I’ve had a wonderful relationship with you men, and I’m grateful and joyful to own them, but I’m going to pass the baton at the end of the time. I hope the NBA stays with TNT… I’m not going to another channel, but I’m going to move the stick to Jamal Crawford or Vince Carter or you Steve]Smith], but future time, I’m only going to retire after 25 years”.
Barkley, a multiple Emmy winner, made the suggestion last month that he might be done with television, including his long-running studio show Inside the NBA, which he has n’t seen since he joined TNT as an analyst in 2000.
The original Philadelphia 76er revealed in an interview from the time that about 200 work could be lost.
” It only sucks right now for the people I work with”, Barkley said. I’m concerned about everyone I interact with. I recently turned 61. I’ve got plenty income”.
