In the midst of former director Bob Bowlsby’s pensions in 2022, the Big 12 Conference created an honor for sports named in his acknowledgment.
But maybe Bowlsby’s ultimate honor was revealed Thursday, when the meeting officially released its fiscal year 2023 income earnings. The papers showed that Bowlsby, who ran the Big 12 for a century, received$ 17.2 million from the club in FY23.
Bowlsby resigned after Texas and Oklahoma made their plans to switch to the SEC, moves that Bowlsby had publicly criticize and embrace had caught him off watch. In an appointment with the Austin American- Statesman, UT’s home report, Bowlsby characterized the furtive way of the programs ‘ defections as a “personal betrayal”.

The Big 12 reported FY23 gross receipts of$ 511 million ( compared to the SEC’s$ 853 million ), while distributions for its members ranged from$ 41.9 million ( West Virginia ) to$ 48.3 million (TCU). Bowlsby’s leader as director, Brett Yormark, received$ 1.2 million in payment.
Earlier this year, Bowlsby told Sportico that, given the ongoing state of school sport, he felt it was necessary for current energy meeting directors to have a legitimate background—something he lacked. He even warned of the dangers of extremely “active” college boards of directors, and directors who were “intruding” in the matters of athletics.
” They treat the sports program like they are the rights class”, Bowlsby observed.
In November, the 72- year- ancient began a five- quarter stint as time athletic director at Northern Iowa, a position he had formerly held from 1990 until 2006. In this latest stay, UNI gave Bowlsby a regular pay of$ 6, 250, according to a backup of his employment contract. Also, the school even hired Bowlsby Sports Advisors—a firm run by Kyle Bowlsby, Bob’s son—for$ 45, 000 to support UNI in its hiring research of a continuous AD.
