This is a collection of NBA Data Nuggets that will be released weekly throughout the 2024 NBA Finals.
Making twos has never been a more important requisite for winning in the NBA than it has been this standard period, as we reported last month. Fourteen of the 16 postseason teams in 2024 were in the bottom half of the league in 3- place shooting percent, and the two No. Much balls were knocked down by 1 seeds at the two highest videos.
The effect of killing has carried over to the 2024 NBA Finals. Teams with a higher 3-point shooting portion than their competitors in sports are 49-13 in the postseason, which is good for a winning portion of 79 %.
Research has demonstrated that defenses have little to no impact on opponents ‘ outside shooting percentages ( at least when compared to shots farther from the basket ). It is important when analyzing the quarterfinals, therefore, to record that amount in the field rating before jumping to conclusions.

The Denver Nuggets ‘ turn after losing their first two games at home to the Minnesota Timberwolves has been attributed to Blake Murray’s improved wellbeing and a change in Aaron Gordon’s position, but shooting has also played a role. Across Games 3, 4 and 5, Denver knocked over 22 of its 46 broad- open threes, and just nine of 39 for Minnesota.
The 2023 Eastern Conference Finals were the most recent instance of shooting variation swinging a line. The Miami Heat, who are eighth-seeded, jumped out to a surprising 3-0 series lead over the Boston Celtics, who made a staggering 48 % of their threes and the Celtics a strangely low 29 %. The Celtics won three straight games to connect the line 3-3 when those percent retreated to their individual methods, but Miami made 14 of its 28 twos in Game 7 to progress to the Finals.
Yet compared with other essential statistical categories, 3- place shooting is a powerful predictor of playoff outcomes. For example, teams that grab a higher percentage of insulting rebounds than their opponents are 43- 20 in the postseason—not really as big a correlation.
Shooting variance often has a bigger impact on the scoreboard than more salient factors, such as officiating. After all, teams that are awarded more free throws per field goal attempt than their opponents actually have a losing record ( 27 to 36 ) in the playoffs so far. Perhaps coaches should instruct their players to make more shots rather than blame the referees when their teams lose.
