Teresa Gould was appointed as the Pac- 12’s fresh director earlier this month, taking George Kliavkoff’s place.
With all but two schools—Oregon State and Washington State—decamping for various events after this academic year, Gould, the second woman to lead a Power Five meeting, is now tasked with no less than ensuring the group’s success. Her term formally begins on March 1.
In a speech released at the time of her campaign, Washington State University leader and Pac- 12 board of directors chair Kirk Schulz said,” Teresa’s deep knowledge of undergraduate athletics and unwavering commitment to student-athletes makes her truly qualified to help guide the Pac- 12 conference during this period of extraordinary change in college sports.”
Teresa Gould, who formerly worked at the University of California, Davis, including as interim sports chairman in 2015-16, joined the Pac-12 in 2018. Additionally, she interned at the West Coast Conference and Cal-Berkeley.
Prior to the group appointing key people and inclusion official Quashan Lockett in 2022, Gould oversaw all activities while serving as deputy director.
Gould emphasized her involvement with the athletic programs at Oregon State and Washington State in her opening media transfer. I’m excited to work with their management and our skilled staff to create a future pathway that will enable their programs to succeed, she said.
With the exception of sports, those institutions may sing Mountain West Conference football teams in 2024 while West Coast Conference opponents will compete in all other activities, including men’s and women’s hockey. The colleges intend to engage as politicians on the stone, where Oregon State is currently ranked sixth nationwide.
Gould stated that, in accordance with the length of those internet contracts, she has committed to at least a two-year stay in the position.
Gould said during a press call on Thursday that” I pretty much seem at myself as the director of all of these programs.”
Gould is expected to limb for what’s left of the meeting on a national level as a result of numerous ongoing discussions, including those involving the future of postseason college basketball play. The Pac- 12 has pledged to continue to” sponsor find sports, signal media rights partnerships, and produce life events and information from the Pac- 12 Enterprises workshop in San Ramon, Calif.” Its current press agreements expire this summer. Following USC and UCLA’s presentations, the Pac- 12 struggled to reach freedom modifications, which contributed to the league’s division.
For the time being, it is business as usual for the meeting. Pac- 12 hockey teams will accumulate in Las Vegas for their monthly tournaments in the upcoming weeks. With five plans already ranked among the top 15 in the nation, the party is one of the strongest in the country on the women’s side. However, the meeting as we knew it will be gone after the spring activities conditions.
Beyond that, it remains to be seen whether the club will try to increase its rates by introducing new programs, or if it will combine with an existing gaze party. In the interim, a complaint in Washington has been settled, giving the so-called “2Pac” schools power over future decisions and profits, including allegedly paying$ 65 million in divorce fees from the departing institutions.
” It’s really important that we have a top-tier meeting on the West Coast that is for all activities,” Schulz said. This will allow our student athletes to compete at a very high level.
